Dajiang Housing Development

A residential prototype in Taipei for a textile manufacturer, testing how facade articulation, balconies and a terracotta cladding system balance daylight, privacy and constructability.
- Location
- Da'an District, Taipei, Taiwan
- Role
- Internship: schematic design and facade development, including complete Rhino modeling, CAD drawings, material studies, facade iterations and physical modeling
Working within a fixed massing and tight site conditions, the design focuses on how facade articulation and balcony design can balance daylight access, resident privacy, and constructability while remaining adaptable to client preferences.
This residential development was commissioned by Dajiang, a textile manufacturer and conglomerate, as a prototype project to demonstrate the architectural application of the company's terracotta cladding system. The project positions housing as both a living environment and a material showcase within a dense urban context in Taipei.

Facade design
How can a residential facade demonstrate a proprietary material while balancing daylight, privacy, and urban constraints?
Working within a fixed massing and dense urban context in Taipei, the design process focused on facade articulation, railing configurations, and brick pattern studies to test how the terracotta system could mediate daylight, privacy, and depth. Multiple facade and balcony options were developed to support client decision-making and demonstrate the flexibility of the material across residential conditions.
